May 26, 2020

To investigate the yield potential of Hybrid Canola varieties, and their suitability to medium-high rainfall zones of WA.

Dumbleyung, WA, 2018

Methodology

Left to right: Later maturing R5520P, compared to R3520, 23/08/2018

Results

Figure 1: Grain yield (t/Ha), LSD = 290Kg with a 90% confidence interval
Figure 2: Growing season rainfall; expected flowering window for each variety (coloured dots); frost event (red dot)

Key findings

  • Seasons late start favored adaptable, faster maturing varieties.
  • Highest yielding was RR Hybrid 44Y27, early maturing.
  • Susceptibility to frost was influenced by variety and flowering times, closer to the event.
  • R5520P & 506RR performed well in comparison to shorter season counterparts R3520 & 404RR.
